Edwards Creative was tasked with designing, fabricating, and installing a new museum exhibit about the freshwater mussels to supplement the museum’s former natural history exhibit. Expanding upon the mussels themselves – their anatomy, reproductive strategy, and environmental impacts – Edwards Creative designed custom exhibit walls to add exhibit space in the front and additional display space for the museum’s existing Gift Shop on the back. Two end returns were designed to add stability to the structure and add a reading rail with mussel species examples and an anatomical mussel model.
A monitor and push-button system were also installed to incorporate video content. Engaging didactic panels were created by back-printing text and images on acrylic sheets, giving the exhibit a clean and modern look while also using current museum colors and design treatments.
