Desi Roots & Wings Permanent Exhibition
Edwards Creative partnered with the National Indo-American Museum to transform the museum’s vision into a comprehensive, multi-phase permanent exhibition chronicling more than 375 years of Indian immigration to the United States. Working closely with museum leadership, our team led the project from initial planning and exhibit design, engineering, fabrication, and installation. The exhibition organizes a complex and often overlooked history into an immersive visitor experience, tracing the Indian American journey from the earliest arrivals in colonial America through successive waves of immigration and their lasting contributions to the cultural, economic, and political fabric of the United States.
Completed in two phases, Desi Roots & Wings combines environmental graphics, museum-quality artifact displays, custom exhibit structures, interactive media, tactile experiences, and layered storytelling to create a cohesive and engaging gallery. Rich color palettes, historical imagery, maps, timelines, and multimedia experiences guide visitors through themes of migration, identity, resilience, innovation, and community while highlighting pivotal moments such as early settlement, westward expansion, the Ghadar Movement, naturalization, and the modern Indian American experience. The result is a dynamic permanent exhibition that preserves an important chapter of American history while fostering greater understanding of the Indian diaspora’s enduring impact on the nation.
